PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a coating film of a perfectly original and excellent design. SOLUTION: The designed coating formation method comprises the steps of (1) forming a top coat by applying a coating material of a top coat with different color tone from that of a coating material of an undercoat on the substrate surface previously coated with the undercoat and (2) forming scraping patterns by scraping a portion of the top coat surface by a coating roller having roughened surface before the top coat is dried. The designed coating formation method may further comprises, based on the necessity, the step of (3) applying a clear coat material to the top coat on which the scratching patterns are formed besides the steps (1) and (2).
