PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system capable of easily registering a newly extended slave unit under multi-channel control. SOLUTION: The telephone system is provided with a master unit 1 which can communicate with a destination through a public telephone line 28 and slave units 2 which can be connected to the master unit 1. When registering the newly extended slave unit 2, the master unit 1 transmits a registration command denoting registration of the slave unit 2 to the slave unit 2 to be newly registered, and when the master unit 1 receives no reply command from the slave unit 2, the master unit 1 selects other channel than a channel shared with the slave unit 2 and again transmits the registration command through the selected channel.
