PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the automatic replacing operation of an electrode tip by eliminating the need of separately adding a driving means. SOLUTION: This is a method for replacing an electrode tip mounted detachably on the shank part of a spot welding gun. The electrode tip 11 which is needed to be replaced is located in a guiding part 104 so as to be in external contact with a locking cam 108, and then rotated in rolling contact with the locking cam 108, so that the electrode tip 11 is pulled out in the locked state. After that, the shank part is moved to the holder 206 of a replacing electrode tip 21, with the locking cam 108 rotated in the manner releasing the locked state of the electrode tip 11 linked with the operation for mounting the replacing electrode tip 21 on the shank part.
