Drain, comprising a mounting flange 2, a drain trough 29 connected to the mounting flange with water seal 28, an inlet part enclosed by the mounting flange and an outlet pipe connected to the drain trough, and a method for connecting the drain to an existing floor element. The novel feature of the invention is that the mounting flange 2 comprises a first annular part 4 with a cylindrical outer boundary surface 16 and a second annular part 5 which projects from the outer boundary surface 16 of the first part at its upper boundary surface 17, is integrated with the first part 4 and has a cylindrical outer boundary surface 6. The upper boundary surface 7 of the mounting flange 2 preferably slopes downwards and inwards from the outer boundary surface 6 of the second part 5. The lower boundary surface 7 of the second part 5 is flat. Projecting from the outer boundary surface 16 of the first part 4 there are securing lugs 14 which are arranged on the lower boundary surface 3 of the mounting flange and are arranged in a plane which is parallel to, and oriented at a defined distance from, the lower boundary surface 7 of the second part 5. The mounting flange 2 is secured to a floor 8 in such a way that the lower boundary surface 7 of the second part 5 rests on the top of the floor 8 and the securing lugs 14 engage with the underside of the floor 8.
