Receptor protein (RP) that is (a) a segment of sequences (4; 312 amino acids (aa)) or (8; 350 aa); (b) a segment with sequence homology with (a) of over 70% or (c) a fragment of (a) or (b), is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) receptor (R1) having a structure that binds specifically to agonists (A) that contain an aldehyde group in which the C atom is linked to an aromatic residue (Ar) through a chain of 1-3 atoms, one of which may be oxygen and the others C, with each C in the chain independently linked to one or two Me, and Ar is optionally substituted once by Me, Et, OMe, OEt, isopropyl ot tert-butyl; (2) receptor (R2) able to bind specifically to n-undecanal; (3) vector comprising a nucleic acid segment (NA) that encodes RP or R1; (4) expression system comprising a cell that over expresses RP or R1; (5) complex (C) comprising RP or R1, bound to an agonist (A1) or antagonist (An) of the binding of A1; (6) biosensor comprising RP or R1 and a system for detecting binding of A1; (7) probe for detecting NA; (8) method for preparing RP or R1; and (9) method for detecting A1 or An.
