PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging unit which properly reproduces a medium to low luminance area even when the rate of a high luminance area shared in an image is high. SOLUTION: The imaging unit provided with an automatic exposure function is characterized in that the imaging unit excludes a high luminance signal with a luminance level being a prescribed reference luminance level or over in luminance signals from a processing object for automatic exposure processing. Through the configuration above, since the imaging unit uses only the luminance levels of the medium to low luminance signal for the processing object to apply exposure adjustment processing to the object, the imaging unit picks up images of the object of the medium to low luminance area desirably to be viewed at a proper exposure to enhance the reproducibility.
