PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool having a workpiece conveying device at the front part of a substrate and for improving accessibility in working in a machining region while performing drop preventing measures of a cutting oil agent or security measures. SOLUTION: In the machine tool 1, the workpiece conveying device 3 is moved between the machining region 12 and a workpiece placing device 25 at the front part of the substrate 2. The machine tool comprises a first moving cover 17 for partitioning the machining region and a moving region 19 of the workpiece conveying device, and a second moving cover 26 that can partition the moving region and a working region of a worker, and uses a space S just before the first moving cover as the moving region of the workpiece conveying device in a closed state, or uses a space that is the moving region as the working region in an opened state. The machine tool comprises a closed-state detecting means 27 for detecting whether or not the second moving cover is in the closed state, and a controller 28 for controlling the workpiece conveying device operable only when the closed-state detecting means detects that the second moving cover is in the closed state.
