The key (1) is provided with a key pad (2) for entering a security code and once this code has been successfully entered and the key has been inserted into the lock, a current pulse is delivered via signal wires (4, 5) in the lock and via external signal wires to an electromagnet. A barrel inside the lock is moved by the electromagnet into a position where it allows the key to be turned. If the wrong code is entered, the barrel will prevent the key from being turned, and then when the key is removed from the lock, the inputted code is automatically cancelled, so that the correct code has to be re-entered and the key has to be inserted into the lock again. |
