PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous SBR latex composition capable of increasing the water retention which governs the coating properties and printability of a coating fluid, and simultaneously efficiently performing the operation of preparing the coating fluid. SOLUTION: The aqueous SBR latex composition comprises an aqueous SBR latex having a pH of≤7 and 1.0-10 mass%, based on the solid content mass of this aqueous SBR latex, alkali-soluble associative water retention agent, and the viscosity at 25°C, when the solid content concentration is taken as 50 mass%, is set at≤5,000 cP.
