The throttle flap (1) is rotated about its axis (3) by a motor (6) with an electromagnetic clutch (9) jointly operated by a control unit (4) in response to a set-point input (5) and signals (25,26) from position sensors (16,17) of the flap and accelerator pedal (14) respectively. The flap sensor has a different output voltage characteristic for a range of positions covering normal idling speed and fast idling, where resolution is enhanced by a steeper characteristic gradient than that associated with higher speeds.
