PURPOSE: A method for supplying an online caption system is provided to supply captions of a current broadcasting program in real time through a communication network, and to display the broadcasting program with the captions on a TV set, thereby easily watching a foreign broadcasting program and enabling the hearing impaired to enjoy the program. CONSTITUTION: A caption server(200) generates caption data of television programs of many channels. The caption server(200) transmits channel and language information for supplying the caption data to a caption processor(100). If a user selects a desired channel and a desired language, the caption processor(100) transmits the selected information to the caption server(200). The caption server(200) delivers caption data on the selected channel and the language to the caption processor(100) over the Internet. The caption processor(100) synthesizes the received caption data with a currently received television image signal, and outputs the synthesized data with the signal to a display device(500).
