摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slider hardly receiving van der Waals force and electrostatic force and having stable floating characteristics. SOLUTION: A read/write head 52 in a slider 20 performs exchange of information with a disk 12 mounted on a rotary spindle 32 and driven by a motor. Multiple diamond shaped column cavities 64 are formed in a pad 50e of a rear end of the slider 20. The cavities 64 have a function to reduce van der Waals force and electrostatic force attracting the slider 20 to the disk 12. Since the cavities 64 hardly influence air bearing performance and hardly change floating height characteristics, the air bearing acts almost as if the cavities 64 do not exist.
