<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve contamination removal and cleaning maintainability without providing any special mechanism by performing proper control based on use conditions of an image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is equipped with a cleaning device 16 which removes contamination sticking on the surface of a photoreceptor drum 12 driven to rotate in a forward direction α with a cleaning blade 84 pressed against the surface of the photoreceptor drum 12 in an image forming process and a control circuit which controls the rotation of the photoreceptor drum 12 in the forward direction α or reverse direction β. This control circuit controls the rotation in the reverse direction β according to the rotational state of the rotation of the photoreceptor drum 12 in the forward direction α. More in detail, the inertial force in the forward direction α of the photoreceptor drum 12 is grasped and a forward rotational quantity by the inertial force is taken into consideration to grasp the rotational state, thereby rotating the photoreceptor drum in the reverse direction β by a specified quantity after a specified time has elapsed after the image forming process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
