PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy dissipator appropriate for dissipating water stream vertically dropping in a draining culvert for a head manhole, a viaduct /elevated road, etc. in a built-up area. SOLUTION: The energy dissipator is provided with an energy dissipator tank 1 having an inflow opening 11 and an outflow opening 12. The inflow opening 11 is formed on the ceiling wall 2 of the dissipator tank 1. The outflow opening 12 is formed on the side wall 4 of the dissipator tank 1, and a slant face 32 for dissipating the energy of water stream flowing in the inflow opening 11. In this way, by forming the inflow opening 11 for sewage or the like at the ceiling wall 2 of the dissipator tank 1, even if an inflow pipe 101 is a vertical pipe, the energy dissipator can be used.
