<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium from which the state of a photochromic molecular material before or after reaction can be non-destructively and selectively read with infrared light and to provide an optical recording method. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium which performs recording by irradiation with recording light and performs reproduction with electromagnetic waves having lower energy than the recording light, a photochromic material whose ring-opened and ring-closed bodies are largely different from each other in molecular vibration is contained. In the optical recording medium, the photochromic material is preferably a diarylethene compound and this diarylethene compound preferably has a partial structure of maleic anhydride and/or a benzothienyl group which may have a substituent. The optical recording method is a recording method for an optical recording medium having a recording layer containing a photochromic material and performs recording by irradiation with the light in the range from ultraviolet light to visible light and performs reproduction using the light in the wavelength range of IR, and in the optical recording method, the above optical recording medium is preferably used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
