The system (100) has a cannula assembly (112) with a longitudinal passage receiving an obturator assembly (110). The assembly (112) has housing with a valve assembly and a resilient latch. A cannula (116) defining a passage way of a predefined dimension includes another latch. The housing and the cannula are movable alternately between a spaced apart orientation and an attached orientation at which the latches are coupled.
