A shaft-less rotor includes at least two recessed portions 2a, 2b that are shaped to enable the rotor to rotate (about a single axis) by the application of fluid flow to the rotor. The centre of mass of the rotor is substantially at the centre of the volume of space occupied by the rotor. The rotor may be contained within the confines of a housing through which fluid may flow to spin the rotor, the spinning of the rotor being a mechanical source for an electricity generator or serving to process the fluid, by way of communition or filtering of the fluid, flowing around the rotor.
