PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition method and device by which exact determination is made compared with the use of a single feature amount, forming a configuration determining whether a character is made with a printing type or handwriting by combining the plurality of feature amounts allowing more exact determination than unassisted case. SOLUTION: A feature extract means 103 extracts one kind of the feature amount or plural kinds of the feature amounts used for determining the print type or the handwriting for every character group extracted by means of a character extract means 102.
