PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning apparatus capable of effectively and rapidly cleaning a sheet-like material such as photographic paper containing substances to be removed, and method therefor. SOLUTION: This apparatus is to clean substances from a coated surface of material. And a cleaning method is to use the apparatus comprising at least one substantially flat tilted-surface where the material passes upward, an inlet supplying a cleaning liquid to the upper part of the tilted-surface and a pressure application means for supporting the material so as to completely contact with the flat tilted-surface.
