METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALKYLBIPHENYL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing an alkylbiphenyl by reaction between an olefin and a biphenyl so as to suppress the formation of by-product olefin oligomers even at low pressures. SOLUTION: The method for producing the alkylbiphenyl comprises feeding a non-closed type reactor with the olefin and the biphenyl so as to be 0.3-1.5 in the molar ratio of olefin/biphenyl and≤0.5 in the molar fraction of the gas phase to the sum of the gas phase and liquid phase, making the reactants flow upward in the presence of a solid acid catalyst and carrying out a reaction at 170-300°C under normal pressure to 3 MPa. By this method, the objective alkylbiphenyl can be produced in high efficiency through suppressing the by-product olefin oligomers even at low pressures. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
