In iris authentication, iris regions (2a, 2b) are cut out from a plurality of images and they are subjected to polar coordinate conversion (3a, 3b) and band limitation (4a, 4b), after which iris codes are generated (5a, 5b). Furthermore, these iris codes are subjected to rotation compensation (6a, 6b) and then unified into a single iris code by deciding the bit value by majority decision for each bit (7a, 7b).
