Determining the concentration of a fluorescent substance in a fluid comprises passing a light beam through a sample of the fluid, measuring the fluorescence spectra at two different distances from the light beam, and calculating the concentration from the two spectra. Determining the concentration of a fluorescent substance in a fluid comprises: placing a sample of the fluid in an examination chamber; passing a light beam through the chamber so that part of the sample is traversed by the light beam and part is not; measuring a first fluorescence spectrum at a first distance from the light-traversed part of the sample; measuring another fluorescence spectrum at a second distance from the light-traversed part of the sample, different from the first distance; and calculating the concentration of the fluorescent substance from the two different fluorescence spectra. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for determining the concentration of a fluorescent substance in a fluid, comprising: an examination chamber for receiving a sample of the fluid; an illumination device for passing a light beam through the chamber so that part of the sample is traversed by the light beam and part is not; a measuring device for measuring a first fluorescence spectrum at a first distance from the light-traversed part of the sample and measuring another fluorescence spectrum at a second distance from the light-traversed part of the sample, different from the first distance; and a processing unit for calculating the concentration of the fluorescent substance from differences in the two fluorescence spectra. |
