PURPOSE: A silent chain and a sprocket are provided to considerably reduce noise generated in contacting teeth of a link plate with the sprocket by contacting teeth of the link plate with the sprocket at different time with phase difference. CONSTITUTION: A silent chain(1) includes a plurality of overlapped link plates(3) of which teeth phases are engaged to cross each other. A sprocket forms a plurality of gear trains along a rotary shaft to engage with teeth of the link plates of the silent chain and crosses the teeth of each gear train to correspond to phase of the crossed teeth of the link plate. The phases of crossed teeth of the link plate are put before the others from the outside of overlapped link plates to the central part.
