PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly absorb collision energy in both states of an offset collision at comparatively high speed and a total collision at comparatively low speed in a side member structure of the vehicle. SOLUTION: Right and left side members 1 are constituted to have structures in which front members 2 and rear members 3 are connected. When impact is applied from a front side of a vehicle body, the collision energy is absorbed due to destruction of the front and rear members 2 and 3. When the collision energy is less than a prescribed value, the front members 2 are destructed to absorb the collision energy. When the collision energy becomes more than the prescribed value, strength of the front and rear members 2 and 3 is set to absorb the collision energy due to the destruction of the front and rear members 2 and 3.
