PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water electrolysis device capable of preventing breakage of a solid polymer electrolytic film caused by the differential pressure even in a transitional operating state, and ensuring stable operation for a long period of time. SOLUTION: A hydrogen gas tank 15 and an oxygen gas tank 14 are provided in a gas discharge system of a cathode side vapor-liquid separator 11 communicated with a cathode chamber 3 and a gas discharge system of an anode side vapor-liquid separator 10 communicated with an anode chamber 2, and the ratio of the inner volume of these gas tanks is set to be substantially 2:1.
