PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for opening and closing top lids, which have gas springs to help the opening of the lids to the left and right on a container fitted with the top lids of double-opening-type, which can be opened and closed to the left and right on a flucrum at the left side or right side of either of the lids. SOLUTION: The apparatus has the gas springs 41 for helping the opening of the top lids 3 to the left and right. The center (o) of each gas spring 41 in its expanding and contracting direction comes to coincide with the position of the horizontal barycenter G of the lid, and distances a1, a2 between the expansion/contraction axis m of the gas spring 41 and respective axis p1, p2 of hinge pins 13a, 13a, which are arranged on the left and right sides of the lids 3 to be perpendicular to the axis m, are identical when the top lids 3 are closed. The gas springs 41 are arranged astride between the front/rear ends of the container 1 and the front/rear ends of the lids 3, respectively. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
