PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing colored (especially fluorescent-colored) spherical composite cured melamine resin particles, capable of controlling particle diameter in a wide range from submicron to micron order, excellent in waterproof property, having unevenly distributed colloidal silica in the vicinity of the surface of particles. SOLUTION: This method for producing the colored spherical composite cured melamine resin particles is characterized by comprising processes (a) and (b) in which a fluorescent dyestuff or water soluble dyestuff is added in the process (a) and/or (b); (a): a process of producing an aqueous solution of an initial condensate of water soluble melamine-based resin by performing the reaction of a melamine compound with an aldehyde compound under a basic condition in the presence of suspended colloidal silica having 5-70 nm mean particle diameter, (b): a process of adding an acid catalyst to the aqueous solution obtained by the process (a) to deposit the spherical composite cured melamine resin particles.
