A mortise lock (10) has a casing (12) with a front plate (14) having an opening (38) for a latch bolt (36) and a pair of opposed side walls (16, 18). The latch bolt (36) is movable between an extended and a retracted position by a linkage (40, 42, 44, 46) connected to a hub (66). The latch bolt (36) is rotatable axially, and the hub (66) is rotatably secured between the opposed side walls (16, 18). A slider plate (80) is movable from a first position wherein the linkage (40, 42, 44, 46) moves the latch bolt (36) to the retracted position to a second position wherein the linkage moves the latch bolt (36) back to the extended position. The slider plate (80) has a preset adjuster (86, 88), adjustable through at least one access aperture in the casing (10). An adjustable spring (92, 94) urges the slider plate (80) away from the hub (66) to cause the slider plate (80) to move to the second position. An access aperture (104) facilitates access to the adjustable spring. |
