PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating removal processing apparatus of simple constitution and a processing method for an optical fiber which can process "stripped wastes" sticking on an optical fiber without flawing the surface of the optical fiber. SOLUTION: The coating processing apparatus, equipped with a coated optical fiber holding part 11 which holds a coated optical fiber 30, a coating removal part 12 which exposes the optical fiber 30 by removing the coating at an end of the coated optical fiber 30, and a heat-treatment part 13 which irradiates the exposed optical fiber with a hot blast of temperature higher than the softening point of the coating and lower than the softening point of the optical fiber, thermally decomposes or fuses the "stripped wastes" sticking on the optical fiber.
