PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnification calibrating method of deriving calibration regarding the entire magnification area by easily calibrating the magnification of a microscope, such as a variable magnification stereoscopic microscope, to arbitrary magnification and the microscope. SOLUTION: The magnification of the microscope is varied to make an image of an object reference scale 10 and an ocular lens reference scale 6a optically match each other one over the other to determine a zoom position corresponding to the optical superposition match of a zoom system 4 in use. Based upon lateral magnification prescribed by scaling of the object reference scale and scaling of the ocular reference scale led to the optical superposition match, actual magnification of the microscope at the zoom position is determined. Nominal magnification of the microscope at the zoom position is determined, the actual magnification and nominal magnification are related to each other through a computer, and through the computer relating, magnification calculations for other zoom positions are made.
