PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester which gives a polyester molded article having a small acetaldehyde content, when the molded article is produced from polyester chips, and hardly stains a mold, when molded. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyester, comprising feeding the polyester chips and treating water to a treating tank to treat the polyester chips with the water, is characterized by treating the polyester chips with the treating water containing an amino group-containing compound in a concentration of 10 to 10,000 ppm.
