<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make always stable the timing recovery by suppressing the following of a timing recovery section to erroneous detection data (target value) even under high low-SNR conditions in which the error possibility of the detection data is high in a timing recovery method and a storage device. <P>SOLUTION: This method includes a detection step of sampling reproduced signals from a recording medium, equalizing the signals, and detecting the signals to output the detected signals, a control step of controlling the position of the sampling based on a phase difference between the equalized signals and the detected signals, and a step of obtaining likelihood information regarding bits in which the possibility of error bits is equal to/higher than a predetermined value based on the equalized signals.
