PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce engagement dimension accuracy between members, facilitate manufacturing, and more stably maintain actuation characteristics in accordance with temperature or the like. SOLUTION: This rotary damper comprises a cylindrical chamber 12 of which casing 1 has protrusion of a partition wall 11, and a rotary blade 25 protruded form a shaft part 21 of a shaft 2 disposed in the cylindrical chamber 12 with a movable body 5, so that braking force received from viscous fluid filled in the cylindrical chamber 12 is varied depending on if the shaft 2 is rotated normally or reversely. The rotary blade 25 comprises a containing part 26 provided in its thickness, passages 28a and 28b respectively penetrating both side walls 27 facing each other in a circumferential direction to part the containing part, and an engagement part 26a provided in the containing part. The movable body 5 is oscillatably assembled in the containing part with a base part 50 pivotally supported by the engagement part 26a to be oscillated by viscous fluid introduced from one passage 28a to close the other passage 28b, while keeping one passage 28a opened when it is oscillated by viscous fluid introduced from the other passage 28b.
