The motor vehicle seat belt reel (1, 5) is attached to a lateral strut (2) at the height of the head of the occupant. It has a reel (5a), a holder (5b), and a fixing (5c) joined to the head of a threaded bolt (6) threaded into a rigid sleeve (7). The sleeve is held in the bore (9) of a flanged retaining ring (10) between the bolt (6) and the inner surface of the car body (11). A second sleeve (12) of a pliable material is pushed onto the front of the rigid sleeve (7) serving as a shock absorbing element in case of an impact.
