PURPOSE: A method for setting a standby picture in a mobile communication terminal is provided to easily retrieve a telephone number and make a call with an object by setting and displaying a telephone number list of the object frequently called with a user on the standby picture of the mobile communication terminal. CONSTITUTION: If a user selects a standby picture setup menu and selects a background theme, a mobile communication terminal displays a user theme, a cocktail and a newly added telephone retrieval on a display window. If the user selects the telephone retrieval, the mobile communication terminal sets and displays an object telephone number list on a standby picture. The mobile communication terminal judges whether the user pushes numerical buttons, selects a desired telephone number sequence from the object telephone number list and pushes the last numerical button long. If the last numerical button is pushed long, the mobile communication terminal calls an object corresponding to the inputted numerical button.
