1,078,635. Topping and tailing beans. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGUST HERBORT KOMM.-GES. Jan 7, 1966 [Sept. 15, 1965], No. 897/66. Heading A4C. A tendril-removing machine for dwarf beans comprises a rotary drum 1 or 7 serving as a longitudinal conveyer, the inner wall of which is equipped with lifting members rotating against a separating comb (4 or 11) fixed to the frame, the lifting members being provided with catching slits 3 or 9 which are open towards the interior of the drum and the width of which corresponds to the thickness of the tendrils or stalks, and the direction of the slits is substantially radially towards the drum wall, but preferably directed counter to the rotation of the drum. The lifting members may be in the form of forks, Fig. 1, or annular discs, Fig. 3, mounted on the inner wall of the drum with the catching slits at their inner edge. The separating comb may be a stationary knife comb or comprise rotatable discs mounted on the same spindle and driven in either direction of freely rotating. The drum wall may contain slits through which the tip of the beans can protrude and be cut off by a knife. Deflecting brushes or water jets may be directed against the outer wall to dislodge beans therefrom. |
