PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acrylic or a methacrylic ester in which an acryloyloxy or a methacryloyloxy group is bound to a cyclic saturated hydrocarbon condensed to a heterocyclic ring having a carbonyl group such as a lactone or a cyclic lactone in a small number of steps without polymerizing the ester. SOLUTION: The method for producing the (meth)acrylic ester comprises adding a carboxy group of (meth)acrylic acid to an unsaturated bond of a compound represented by formula (1) [wherein, X<SP>1</SP>denotes a C(O), an O-(CO), a C(O)-O or a C(O)-O-C(O); a and b denote each an integer of 0-2; and Z<SP>1</SP>denotes a cyclic unsaturated hydrocarbon group; in which Z<SP>1</SP>may have a 1-6C straight-chain or branched alkyl group and a carbon atom in the skeleton may be substituted with an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom] in the presence of a sulfonic acid having a fluorine-containing substituent.
