<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image evaluation apparatus and an image evaluation method for performing objective evaluation which can be suitably associated with subjective evaluation with respect to granular evaluation of a halftone image having periodicity. <P>SOLUTION: A predetermined halftone image is inputted from an image input section 10, and a uniform color space component calculating section 11 converts the color space of the halftone image to obtain an luminosity image. Next, a noise superimposition processing section 12 superimposes random noise information on the luminosity image, and a space frequency component calculating section 13 applies frequency conversion to the luminosity information on which the noise information is superimposed to obtain first power spectrum. Furthermore, a dot frequency component removing section 14 removes predetermined frequency components from the first power spectrum to obtain second power spectrum, a vidual characteristic multiplying section 15 multiplies the second power spectrum by predetermined space frequency information to generate third power spectrum, and a granular evaluation value calculating section 16 evaluates the granularity of the halftone image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
