摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium with excellent electromagnetic transducing characteristics in which cupping and curling are prevented even when a thin non-magnetic supporting body is used, whose surface is flattened with high accuracy and has a satisfactory touch with a head and can deal with miniaturization and long time recording of a cassette, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: After hot roll treatment is applied to a medium in which a metal magnetic film 72 made of cobalt is formed by evaporation on the principal plane 71a of a non-magnetic supporting body 71 consisting of an aromatic polyamide film, a carbon protective film 73 is formed on the metal magnetic film 72 whose surface oxidation layer is etched, and a back coat layer 74 containing plate-like non-magnetic pigment whose particle size is 1.0μm, whose thickness is 20nm and whose aspect ratio is 40 is formed by applying to the other principal plane 71b of the body 17, a top coat layer 75 is formed by applying to the carbon protective film 73.
