A difluoramino derivative of an acyclic aliphatic ketone is prepared by reacting the ketone with boron trifluoride and difluoramine; the ketone has the formula RR1CO where R is a methyl or ethyl group and R1 is an alkyl group containing not more than four carbon atoms. The ketone may be first reacted with difluoramine alone (as described in Specification 1,119,602) to give the hydroxy-difluoramino derivative which is then reacted with boron trifluoride and fluoramine. In examples (a) boron trifluoride is bubbled into acetone to form the compound (CH3)2CO.BF3 which is then refluxed with condensed difluoramine; (b) boron trifluoride is bubbled into the hydroxydifluoramino derivatives of acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl n-propyl ketone, or methyl iso-butyl ketone, and the product is refluxed with condensed difluoramine. The fluoro compounds are useful as propellent explosive ingredients.
