PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder which can inexpensively and stably record by assuming changes of physical properties and chemical properties of ink. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder including a recording head with nozzles capable of jetting ink, and an ink storing part for storing ink to be supplied to the recording head is equipped with a discharging means for discharging the ink via nozzles of the recording head, an ink consumption amount detecting means for detecting an ink consumption amount in the ink storing part, a judging means for comparing and judging the ink consumption amount detected by the ink consumption amount detecting means with a predetermined value, and a control means for changing a discharging amount by the discharging means according to the result of the judgment of the judging means.
