摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light regulating device and a photonic crystal display device using bandgap control, the devices having a simple structure of pixels and capable of displaying with high efficiency of light and a high color contrast ratio by using high reflectance of a photonic crystal in each color region. <P>SOLUTION: The photonic crystal display device using bandgap control is equipped with a plurality of photonic crystals each containing a substance having a variable refractive index depending on an electric field and having a photonic bandgap in a different frequency region from others, and transparent electrodes formed on both faces of each photonic crystal to independently apply a desired electric field on the respective photonic crystal. The magnitude of the photonic bandgap of the photonic crystal is regulated by the voltage applied on the respective transparent electrodes corrsponding to the photonic crystal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p>
