PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly protect an automatic transmission from an undesired range selecting request, in the automatic transmission having a range selector for driving a range selecting valve with a motor. SOLUTION: When a selecting request from a forward range (D range or the like) to a backward range (R range) or from the backward range to the forward range is generated by an operation of a range selecting switch by a driver, if car speed is not lower than a predetermined value, this range selector forcibly releases the selecting request, and warns the driver to perform the selecting operation again after decrease of the car speed.
