PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quick and economical production method for a slotted substrate having desirable characteristics. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the method and system for forming a slot (604) in a print head substrate (606) having a thickness defined by a first surface (610) and a second surface (612) opposite to each other. In one exemplary embodiment, a trench (802) is stored in the first surface (610) and extends internally through shorter than the entire thickness of the substrate (606). A plurality of slots (804) extends into the substrate (606) from the second surface (612) and connects to the trench (802) to form a composite slot (604) passing through the substrate (606). In this embodiment, the trench (802) is wider at portions near the slot (804) than at portions apart from the slot (804). COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
