PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize cost reduction and an improvement in the performance function by carrying out processing by means of software which operates on a high performance processor in place of a special LSI or the like. SOLUTION: The heat history controller has a CPU 1 which carries out a generation process of a history pattern to each history factor with reference to previous printing dots in accordance with a heat history control algorithm stored in a ROM 2; a RAM 3 including a printing data storage area 31 where several lines of lines to be printed and dot images after completely printed are held, and a history pattern storage area 32 where the result operated on the basis of previous printing data is stored for every history factor; and a thermal head interface LSI 4 with a parallel/serial conversion circuit 41, a timer circuit 42, and a head control signal generating circuit 43 for generating a control signal for a shift register in a thermal head in accordance with a timing generated at the timer circuit 42.
