PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a highly precise direction discrimination processing in a shorter period of time. SOLUTION: Text areas are extracted from an original image, priorities are given to the extracted text areas on the basis of prescribed reference, and characters within the text areas from a plurality of directions in the order corresponding to the priorities.
