Novel peroxides have the formula <FORM:1043571/C2/1> wherein R and R1 are hydrogen atoms, or R1 is methyl group and R is a chlorine atom or a phenyl or benzyl group. 2,2-Bis-(tert.-butyl-peroxy) - 3 - chloro-, -3 - phenyl-, and -3-benzyl-propane are made by condensing the appropriate monoketone with tert.-butyl hydroperoxide in the presence of an acid catalyst. 1,1-Bis-(tert.-butyl peroxy)-ethane is made by reacting acetaldehyde with tert.-butyl hydroperoxide in the presence of an acid catalyst, then further reacting the resulting 1-hydroxy-1-tert.-butyl-peroxy-ethane with more tert.-butyl hydroperoxide.ALSO:Compositions comprising olefin polymers or copolymers and a reinforcing filler are vulcanized with a diperoxide selected from 2,2-bis - (tert. - butyl - peroxy) - 3 - chloro -, - 3 -phenyl -, or - 3 - benzyl - propane, or 1,1-bis-(tert.-butyl-peroxy)-ethane. |
