PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent erroneous focusing even in case of the occurrence of a hand shake and object blur and in the case an object exists in any place within contrast detection region. SOLUTION: The autofocusing device has the first contrast detection region being the region where a contrast is detected and the second contrast detection region including the region of at least a portion of the first contrast detection region. The device defects the focusing position in accordance with the position of a first focusing lens being the position of the focusing lens where the contrast is maximum in the first contrast detection region and the position of the second focusing lens being the position of the focusing lens where the contrast is maximum in the second contrast detection region.
