The use of oxyamino-alk(en)yl phosphinic or phosphonic acid derivatives (I) for the treatment and prophylaxis of parasitic helminth infections in humans or animals is new. The use of organophosphorus compounds of formula (I), or their salts, esters, amides or ester salts, is claimed for the treatment and prophylaxis of parasitic infections in humans or animals. R1 = H or optionally substituted acyl; X1 = H; or alkyl, aryl, acyl, aralkyl or silyl (all optionally substituted); A = alkylene, hydroxyalkylene or alkenylene; R2 = H; alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aryl, acyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclyl (all optionally substituted); or halo or OX2; X2, X3 = H; alkyl, (1-9C) alkoxy-(3-9C) alkyl, (1-9C) acyloxy-(1-9C) alkyl or aryl (all optionally substituted); silyl; or a cation of an (in)organic base (especially a Group I-III non-transition metal, optionally substituted ammonium, ethylenediamine or aminoacid cation).
