PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit device and a method for enabling a discharge lamp having a high start voltage to make favorable action with relation to a cost. SOLUTION: This lighting circuit device for a discharge lamp 4 is provided with an AC voltage supply device 1 to supply an AC voltage, and a start voltage generating device connected to the AC voltage supply device 1 to generate a start voltage out of the AC voltage in which the discharge lamp 4 can be connected to an output end. The start voltage generating device includes at least one diode 3 connected in parallel to the output side of the start voltage generating device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
